History:
Sara Maurer was born in 31 BBY on Corellia. Though hoping for a son, her parents never ceased to show their love for her and her younger sister Catharin, giving them all the attention they needed to grow into strong adults.
Being a poor student though, Sara was encouraged to seek a carrier in the Corellian military, and so she joined the CDF right after school. After displaying considerable skill with a blaster rifle, Sara was selected for advanced marksmanship training, then posted to the CDF’s elite sharpshooter battalion.
Seeking additional challenges, she applied for the CDF’s commando course. After being denied on numerous occasions, she persevered and entered training. Struggling with the grueling regimen as well as the commandos’ ingrained chauvinism, Sara earned a grudging acceptance within the force.
Following the declaration of the New Order, many Corellians were drafted into military service for the Empire, so as to deal with the growing Rebellion; Sara being one of them. Outraged at the heavy hand of Imperial repression, she was among those who sought to throw off the yoke of the Empire from Corellia and the rest of the galaxy. Taking advantage of the confusion within Imperial ranks after the Battle of Yavin, she made contact with and joined the Rebel Alliance.
Along with her brother-in-law, Matheron Thayer, and some of her comrades from the CDF, she served with the Rebels’ Special Ops forces and was posted to Echo Base on Hoth in 3 ABY, where she was severely wounded when the Empire attacked. Lying in the imperial force's line of fire, it was Matheron's heroic actions that saved her life on that day. However, her injuries left her unable to join the field again, as well as unable to have a child.
In the time following, depression threatened to get her down. But being a fighter, she hung on, putting all her energy into the task of instructing a new generation of SpecOps after she was posted to the Alliance's training cadre. Regardless of the severity of her injuries, she constantly sought to regain her shape, until finally, when the Alliance launched its campaign to liberate Coruscant she was released to take part in battle again.
Only when the Corellian Sector finally joined the New Republic in 12 ABY, Sara resigned from the NRDF to return home to Corellia and rejoin the CDF. Returning to her hard-driving ways of old – and not least thanks to her achievements with the Rebel Alliance, which didn’t go completely unobserved, either - she earned promotion to Sergeant Major in the CDF, and the undying enmity of any number of recruits and veterans alike.
Despite her tough reputation, Sara has a soft spot for her nephew Gavin, and was deeply disappointed when Catharin and her family relocated to Coruscant, and is still quite upset about the circumstances that led to the divorce of Catharin and Matheron. Keeping in touch, she waits for the day when her sister will return home to Corellia.
