Past quotes of the week
Re: Past quotes of the weekNov 4th - 11th:
The ship settled down with a rough clunk. It was obvious the tractor beam operator was being paid just enough to keep things from being damaged.
“I hate these people already.” Morgan said.
“You hate everything right now.” Sully said, and drew his blaster. Dyles did the same, while Grey held the menacing concussion rifle.
“Here.” Sully said, handing Morgan one of the DH-17s. She was mad, but wouldn't shoot them. He hoped.
“I miss my blaster.” She whined.
“If we get out of this, you can get one just like it later.” Dyles said.

Re: Past quotes of the weekNovember 12 - 18, 2007
"Confirmed," Anton noted. "We have reports of boarding parties landing in the main hangar." He pushed a few buttons on the comm board, nodded to himself when they turned green. "All hands, all hands, this is the captain. Arm yourselves and take up defensive positions. The ship has been boarded, repeat, the ship has been boarded." He released the button as Gandel closed the comm channel to Marachek. "Sir, we need to get you out of here." He motioned to two stormtroopers. "You two, escort the admiral to the auxiliary docking bay."
Gandel made for the lift, paused when he saw that Anton was not following. "Anton?" He asked questioningly.
Anton shook his head. "I'm the captain, Max." It was the first time Gandel recalled the captain using his first name. "I'm going to fight for my ship. Besides, somebody has to make sure all vital systems and information remain out of enemy hands." Destroyed, Gandel thought. But that would take time… time they didn't have. He hesitated, opened his mouth to say something, but Anton beat him to it. "With all due respect, sir… get your ass in gear and get off my ship." Gandel nodded and made for the lift, bodyguards in tow.
Anton watched him go, then looked around at the bridge crew. They would stay and fight, too, so long as he ordered it. "Somebody get me a gun."

Re: Past quotes of the weekNovember 19 - 25, 2007
Gorm wiped his brow, wincing from his wound as he did so.
"One of these times you're gonna remember you are wounded, friend," chuckled one of the rebels over the speeder's engines.
"Believe me," he said, looking longingly at the sky, "I haven't forgotten."
They were on the run; what rebels did best. Flying cover for them were three of the five sky hoppers they had gathered for the operation. The other two were elsewhere, trying to find an opportunity to go for the stratosphere on the opposite side of the ECM coverage.
"Think your friends can handle any bombers sent our way?" his friend asked in between scanning the horizon.
"They're shadows, come hell or nova they're good for it."

Re: Past quotes of the weekNovember 26 - December 3, 2007
Why am I here?
To defend the citizens of the Galactic Empire and itself versus all foes, near and far. An automatic response came from within his mind, the mantra of all fleet commanders who go to the mandatory War College on Kuat. But Willem shook his mind: he did not fight for the Empire, no longer. He fought for the duty of its citizens, not the Empire. He remembered the reason why he distanced himself from power corruptible, and stayed with his moral code.
Why am I here?
To defend the people of the Empire and make sure their assets are secure. Another automated response overriding the other mantra, this one the code of the Imperial Navy. But even then, it came up different in his head, sounding more like a financial code of pretext than anything else. No, he thought, this is different.
Why am I here?
Because you choose to be. That was Riika’s voice, his only star, which had faded long ago. He bit his lip, to cause pain, to forget for the moment. He could not reveal one piece of information, or else his ploy as a Grand Admiral would fail. But her voice was right. That was all he needed to know, why he was fighting, why he was here. Because he chose to. Because he wanted to.
Because he needed to.

Re: Past quotes of the weekDecember 4-9, 2007
Alice would talk to him sometimes, but only to him and only when they were alone. Sometimes she would do bad things, naughty tricks on Cryxes but he couldn’t make himself throw her away. Her dress was a dark green; her simpering smile and wide eyes gave her the appearance of a small girl. “You like blood, yes?” Cryxes asked, perhaps to himself, perhaps to the doll, turning her over in his clawed hands. Her smile widened, and she leapt out of Cryxes’s hands and steadily waddled to the pool and bathed herself in blood.
Cryxes blinked. He didn’t do that. He turned around and could sense nothing, he turned back to the pool of blood and he saw the doll lying limply in the liquid. Blood had soaked into her dress; her smile now seemed maniacal and her eyes gently twinkled in the darkness. He did not know if he had imagined the entire event but he did know there was a nexus of dark energy surrounding the doll, and oh so dark it was…

Within moments, soldiers loyal to Talos and his family's credits would be breaking down the door of Colonel Jakson and his most loyal followers and assuming the watch at all major military communications centers around Aeten II. Manufactured evidence would accompany the charges, which would of course be made before military courts. Courts presided over by officers all but bought and paid for.
By dawn, the Rebels would be dead or routed and his own hold over the Imperial cabals and the Army Intelligence service would be established. When the Imperial representatives landed, they would be talking with the 'government', to be sure, but they would also be talking to him.
Talos looked forward to the conversation.

How could it not be wrong? Mere moments ago, Cato felt closer, to the woman whose hand was carefully laced with his own, than he had any living being in the galaxy. Connected to her on a level that was a result of their common troubles, of their tumult their lives had been. But now, now he felt almost used. His thoughts were a pod-race through the grungy world of Malastare, a twisting turning and dangerous thing. It seemed too convenient.
Running on Coruscant? No Coruscanti Security Forces interfering? All those missed shots? Had he been duped? When had Tekelin joined the Government? His teeth grit, realizing he was the one dictating the pace at which they were moving toward the ship. That his hand had been holding tighter to Teke’s than was appropriate caught him off guard. That she made no complaint caused a pang of regret to burn through his heart.

Abiik peered at his adversary through the T-visor in his helmet and drew his Mandalorian sword. This could be it. He could die this day. It didn't trouble him. He had been expecting to die ever since he had been a child. Everything he had done since then, every effort he had expended, had been a rear-guard effort to postpone that inevitability. Now that it was at an end, he had no regrets. He had done all that he could do. All that any one human could do. He ought to be resigned, to let it come. There was only one problem.
He was still angry.

“Ohhhh. Ohhh frell.” Morgan said, her head pounding. She had woken a moment after Sully. Despite her much lower body mass, Morgan ran at least three kilometers a day when her legs were working. Combined with her youth, she had a very ramped up metabolism. Her eyes opened to a blur of white with brighter spots of white. Her head didn't move very well. There were sounds, but they were distant and formless blips of noise. She tried to rub her eyes, but her arm was sluggish and clumsy. Morgan turned her head, but it went too fast. Her inner ear told her things were one way, and her eyes absolutely disagreed. The bile rose from her stomach. Morgan's widened and she flopped over prone, her head just off the examining table right before her stomach emptied out what little was there. She did not feel the pair of hands that helped flip her over.
“Ohh gods.” Morgan murmured and coughed several times.

The Corellian allowed himself a self-satisfied grin. What a piece of luck, Navin leaving that flimsipad behind. Incredibly careless as well. It had been simple enough for Rinehart to swipe the notepad and secret it back to his tenement apartment. There, he had painstakingly and carefully retraced the address from the indentations of Navin’s handwriting on the remaining flimsies. If Navin had taken the simple precaution of tearing the sheet from the pad and writing the address on the surface of the bar, Rinehart’s plans would have been foiled. How strange that battles, and sometimes wars, turned on such simple twists of fate!

“So,” He asked once they had pulled away from the terminal and the taxistand with its milling nosy drivers. “What you really want there in my part of town, eh?”
Eyeing him levelly Val replied, “I told you I’m going to help out my aunt and uncle for a few days.”
“What you doin all the way on this side the city?” He continued his questioning.
“I live there” She replied, getting a bit annoyed.
“You don’t smell like CoCo Town…or nowhere over by Invisec.” The graying snout snuffled again. “Not even like this damn rock. More like Corellia to old Voolo.” He gave a wide, razor toothed grin as if pleased with himself.
In reaction, Val didn’t know whether to laugh or worry. She had been told she sounded Corellian when she spoke in her own natural voice, but never that she smelled it. Instead she just remained silent, refusing to answer him.
But that didn’t stop Voolo from talking on in his snarl-filled voice. “You hear the bad news ‘bout your Senator today. All over the holonet. It’s a bad, bad day. That Bel Iblis, he was a good man…for a human.” He gave a little growly laugh at his own little joke before growing serious again.
“You smell scared too. And not of Voolo I’m thinking.” He went on, no threat in his voice at all. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you get to your “Aunt and Uncle” safe.
Val looked up sharply at that and could have sworn the Shistavanen winked at her in the rear view monitor.

The cold look she gave him as she answered, reminded Traven that Jordan had been a graduate of Carida too. “There is no us. It is impossible. You are my commanding officer. How would we continue? Secret rendezvous? Sneaking into each others quarters? Or hiding in supply closets even? That isn’t what I want. That isn’t what I fought for all of these years.” Returning her look now, Traven asked calmly: “And what do you want?” Jordan crossed her arms in a defensive manner. “I want my career. You know what will happen when they find out. You will get a disciplinary hearing, but staying in your rank and position. Just instead of your clean record, you will have the reputation of the man who managed to get icy Commander Lane into his bunk. The other officers would congratulate you for that even, if they would dare. And you know what would happen to me? Because I’m a woman they would kick me out of the Navy. “

Garrick stared down the barrel. “You’d think so, wouldn’t you? But then again, I’m dumb enough to race pods so who’s to say I’m too smart to piss off some kid with a gun in my face?” he spat back, sprinkling some anger in his voice. Sobren blinked, just once, but it was enough to tell Garrick he was getting through to him. “This is the first time you’ve ever done this, isn’t it?”
The anger started to clear from the young space pirate’s face. That was easier than I thought, Garrick said to himself.

“A pilot is to not know the meaning of fear, to know only that he is a humble servant of the Empire and do whatever it takes to keep her safe, even to the point of sacrificing his own life if need be, sir.” Paron took a deep breath. “A successful mission means more than a life support system. We are the Empire’s, in name only belonging to ourselves.”
“Correct, Emyn.” Hrruck pounded a fist on the hard surface of his desk, making every student visibly jump except Paron. “You must remember that it does not matter whether you live or die, but rather if you have served your Emperor.”

With each step his feet sank lower into the ground and his staff became more and more a crutch rather than a decoration. Grunting softly, the Knight felt the old man in him stir as he thought to himself, “Ugh, I hat-, er, I do not like this place… Remember, a Jedi knows no hate. Regardless, it makes me feel like a Youngling again. The Dark Side here is crushing, there is no other word for it. I can barely move, and after that fight with that… thing… I do not know if I will be able to carry on much longer. As soon as I get off of this place-
His thoughts were interrupted as he looked up to find that they had arrived at the rocky crag he had spotted before, Split still with him. Sighing in relief, he walked into a small cavern that had most likely been carved out by a mix of water, wind, and horizontal acid rain. Its origins made little difference to Geo, so long as he was out of the open and his Padawan was safe. For now, it was a time for rest.

"I wish Admiral Dodonna had been in command. Then it would have been a victory for the Empire. Instead the Ravisher is ordered to protect Kuat Drive Yards, while our darkest hour takes place in the core. But it is idle to ponder about what could have been.
You said in your message, that the rebels arrested Father, because of his connections to the military. I wish I could be with you as support, but I have my strict orders. The Admiral thinks that it is too risky if I would come home. It is clear that the rebels want to use Father to state an example. A propaganda trial to show the crimes of the Empire. So they would love to have an Imperial Elite pilot in their grip too. And I’m afraid the judgement in my case wouldn’t be a benignant one."

Jerva, on his feet now, was preparing to open fire on their pursuers when Aray gathered up part of his collar and firmly pulled him back from the opening. “Get out of my way,” she muttered, casually releasing his shirt so that he stumbled back into the bulkhead. She got a grip on side of the door and started to release a stream of angry shots from her blaster. The wind howled through the van, snatching her hair and causing her eyes to tear up…which was what she told herself was the cause.
“Hey, I tried to pull him back in, sweetheart,” Jerva snarled, shoving up beside her to join in laying down cover fire. “Don’t blame me for this.”

Corran looked from Ranzen’s green blade to Sythis’ red one. Then he switched off his own weapon, clipping it at his utility belt. While Ranzen’s eyes widened in shock, Sythis looked confused, waiting for the Corellian’s next move. With a slight smile Corran produce another weapon from underneath his jacket. An older one, that felt strange yet familiar in his hand as he ignited the green blade.
Darth Sythis rose an eye-brow first as he recognised the weapon. Then he chuckled. “Your grandfather’s weapon. How adequate because he died too while using it against me. And how delightful that you want revenge, Ceveir. Your Jedi friend will not like that. “
“You are talking too much, old man.” Corran replied simply. Without any further ado he jumped forward, engaging the Sith Lord.

I woke up with a shake of the head. That dream, for the past couple of days, has been haunting my sleep. I hate water, I really do, and the idea of me smiling in a dream like that scares me. It’s an omen of things to come, I know it. I roll off to my side with a glance to my bunk mate, still asleep in the early hours of the ship’s evening shift. I slip off my bed against the bulkhead, standing tall for a brief moment. Flight Lieutenant Pasternak is still sleeping soundly, like he always has, and I certainly don’t want to wake him up.

"Impressive, padawan," she cooed, deflecting another strike, then another. "But much you have to learn. Join us, and be with your sister. Then we can end this conflict."
"Never! I would rather die than join you!" Split spat back.
"As you wish…" she replied. Suddenly, Sivan was right beside him. She punched him so hard that his feet left the ground and he went hurtling into the sands. Split slowly again rose, lightsaber still in hand, and faced her. His lips were stained with blood. She attacked again, and he parried weakly.
"This is the end, young padawan. Say goodbye to your sister."
Sivan twirled her lightsaber and with surprising strength, the red blade was jammed into his ribs. Split closed his eyes and let the pain pass through him. The heated blade burned his chest, but he didn't let go of his lightsaber.
"I'm sorry, Niobe," he whispered. "I've failed you."
