Another quote about writing
Re: Another quote about writingBetter to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.
~ Cyril Connelly
A good novel tells us the truth about its hero; but a bad novel tells us the truth about its author.
~ G. K. Chesterton
There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written or badly written.
~ Oscar Wilde
A deadline is negative inspiration. Still, it’s better than no inspiration at all.
~ Rita Mae Brown
Re: Another quote about writingA writer is a person for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.
Re: Another quote about writingWe do not write because we want to; we write because we have to.
W. Somerset Maugham
Re: Another quote about writing“Write drunk; edit sober.”
Re: Another quote about writingAnd he would know.
Re: Another quote about writingI tried to write wasted one time. Didn't work out as well as I thought.
Re: Another quote about writingThat's why you edit sober.
Re: Another quote about writingEverybody walks past a thousand story ideas every day. The good writers are the ones who see five or six of them. Most people don't see any.
- Orson Scott Card

Corran Antilles said“Write drunk; edit sober.”
That doesn't quite work, and the only thing that I have to drink is some nasty assed spiced liquer.
Re: Another quote about writingI don't have the kind of cash it would take me to write drunk, and I'll be damned if I switch to cheap spirits!
Actually, on the note of spirits, I'm having a really crap day with my sinus acting up, like a giant head cold - the one thing I haven't tried is that godawful ginger wine! *crosses fingers*
Re: Another quote about writingDrink beer. It's cheap.
Re: Another quote about writingWriting begins with ideas, but we forget ideas are whispers in our minds. They’re always there. The trouble is we overpower the whispers with the loud voice of what we think we want our ideas to be. It takes quiet patience to listen carefully and that’s what creativity often means: simple quiet courage.
- “How to write 1000 words” by Scott Berkun
Re: Another quote about writing"Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.”
"Be a Sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them—in order that the reader may see what they are made of."
Both quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
Re: Another quote about writingSome might call that Mary Sue-ing. But you know, with Sam I totally enjoy doing that. :glance
Re: Another quote about writingIt's just Mary-Sue-ish if everybody loves you, you can sing and dance and the colour of your eyes is changing.
Re: Another quote about writingMy character can't sing or dance. Although I can. ;]
Re: Another quote about writing“Each of the three classic Star Wars movies includes a Star Destroyer in its opening scene. All of my Rebellion-era books do the same.”
Re: Another quote about writing“That famous writer’s block is a myth as far as I’m concerned. I think bad writers must have a great difficulty writing. They don’t want to do it. They have become writers out of reasons of ambition. It must be a great strain to them to make marks on a page when they really have nothing much to say, and don’t enjoy doing it. I’m not so sure what I have to say but I certainly enjoy making sentences."
