Names for a Book (Or three books)
For the first book I have:
The Dragon's Dagger
The Damsel's Dagger
The Damsel's Deception
The Defiler's Decree
The Defiler's Design
The Dove's Deception
For the second:
The Dragon's Demand
The Dragon's Dart
The Dragon's Domain
The Damsel's Descent
The Dove's Descent
The Damsel's Debt
The Defiler's Design
The Defiler's Domain
The title of the third book is The Dragon's Daughter.
For the purposes of this exercise, the Dove and the Damsel are the same person. "The Dragon's Dart" would also refer to the character of the Damsel.
Basically I either want all three to have "The Dragon's ____" in the title, or I want three different titles without repeating a word. I'm not asking for anyone to nail this down for me (especially since where the books break isn't for sure yet), I just wanted to narrow the list a little and get an idea of which titles sounded better.
Thank you my friends!
Re: Names for a Book (Or three books)I'm for "The Dragon's Dagger" and "The Dragon's Demand". Even when it's a little hard to choose without knowing the story.
Re: Names for a Book (Or three books)If the third one is going to have Dragon, I'd go with Dragon all the way. But I can't suggest more without knowing the plots.
Re: Names for a Book (Or three books)I also agree with Sam and Math. If your books are about Dragons, why not keep it in the title. I don't know much about your writing or the plot so I can't really narrow it down from that list. One suggestion would be to go with a unique title and see if anyone else has used those titles before.
Re: Names for a Book (Or three books)It's hard to summarize things sometimes! I've started typing three times and can't make it short.
Book 1: Bad Guy usurps throne, Protagonist finds dagger with a dragon depicted in the hilt, gets drawn into "Loyalist's" agenda as spy in the court by dagger's owner first friend, eventually found out and betrayed, set to prison to die.
Book 2: Battle, Prot is freed but does not rejoin Loyals, returns home only to find it destroyed by war, does everything in power to stop war up to and including assassinating generals, etc. Wounded and flees back to first friend with the dagger. Becomes bodyguard to Loyalist's leader, the rightful prince's betrothed. Loyals beaten back, decimated. Trapped with first friend beneath mountain.
End of Book2/Beginning of Book 3: Encounter with dragon in the mountains.
Book 3: First Friend's and Dragon's histories, travel to safe city, reunion with Prince's Betrothed, Prince. Prince's Betrothed assassinated, Bad Guy's armies invade, Dragon honors call….and that's it because plot twists.
So until the third book (or the very very end of the second) the dragon is thought of as a mythical creature and doesn't actually make an appearance. But because of the dagger (which came from the dragon's hoard) and some other history the effect of the dragon is felt throughout. But the dragon itself is actually a semi-peripheral character with the main protagonist being the person who eventually becomes known as the Dragon's daughter.
