A Crazy Thing Happened to Me
on the way to work ThursdayIt was raining this past week, and that makes our porch steps outside very slippery. I didn't want to risk going down them so I opted to leave through the garage.
Big mistake. Huge. I'll try to relate the tale as it unfolded around me.
I got all the way down there, and then realized I had left my keys upstairs. So, I went up, got them, and went back down...
Then I'm sitting in a chair in the garage, no keys. I spent 30 minutes looking for them, wondering the whole time "WTF? I had them just now, I unlocked my car already!"
I scoured the garage, then the living room upstairs, foyer, garage again. Finally I got the brilliant idea to turn the garage light on. Lo and behold, right there next to the chair I'd been sitting in, on the floor, were my keys. Whatever. I left and got into my car. My head leant back against the headrest and I felt some pain in the back of my head. I reached up, felt it...
Everything came rushing back. I'd slipped, and fallen backwards, straight back. I was essentially calm, the fall took forever, then my head had hit the concrete floor. And everything went sideways, literally sideways in my vision. Then... ?
I was out for, I think, 10 minutes, probably less. I hadn't remembered somehow getting up and sitting back in that chair. I felt no pain at all, remembered nothing, until my head touched that headrest, then it all came flooding back.
Drove to work, everything's cool, I didn't die from the concussion everyone is telling me I have. And now I know how it feels to get knocked out cold. Not the worst pain I've felt; still, I wouldn't recommend it.
How's everyone else doing?
I think it’s interesting that I literally spent that long looking for my keys, feeling no pain and remembering nothing, yet suddenly it all came back.
It was nothing compared to what I experienced this past week. I'm turning it into a story idea.
