Fun facts: Gavin’s most famous ancestor is Kotten Matheron Thayer, the self-proclaimed “Sithfinder General”; he plays paceball and limmie, and his favorite teams are the Corellia Dreadnaughts and Coronet City United. Gavin’s favorite paceball player is Trixx, the Dreadnaught’s all-star Lepi left scout. His favorite music genre is sparkle-bop.

History:

Born to Catharin and Matheron Thayer six years before the Battle of Yavin, Gavin’s childhood was not always a pleasant one. Despite an uneventful childbirth, the infant Gavin failed to thrive, and his worried parents sought out expert after expert seeking a diagnosis. Despite their tests and analyses, the doctors were stumped by the boy’s condition and Gavin, underweight and undersized, suffered from a variety of ailments during his childhood. Gavin’s ill-health prevented him from having a normal primary education—and its attendant Imperial indoctrination—requiring Catharin to home-school her son. Though Gavin was a bright child with an inquisitive mind, his isolation from other children his age left him sad and lonely, and with a constant yearning for friends and companionship.

The destruction of the second Death Star at the Battle of Endor and the demise of the Emperor marked the year as a turning point for Gavin. With Palpatine’s dark shadow removed from the stars, the galaxy—and Gavin—experienced a rejuvenation of life and spirit. As if his parents’ prayers were answered, Gavin overcame the illnesses that had dogged him since he was a toddler. For the first time in his life, Gavin was able attend school, and romp and play outdoors with nary a care in the world.

For Gavin’s parents, their sense of relief was palpable; Matheron began planning all of the father-son activities he once could only dream of. Catharin, after a decade of unspoken fears, found contentment in her son’s new found health.  It was, she once remarked, “…A blessing to see Gavin growing up.”

As Gavin approached his early teens, he became acutely aware of his physical build. The hoped- and prayed-for growth spurt never really materialized, and Gavin remained short and slight in stature in comparison to other Corellian males his age. Despite this, Gavin was determined to prove his worth. Signing up for athletics—paceball, limmie, even phrenbi— Gavin was desperate to show that even if he lacked his father’s size and strength, his grit and determination would be proof that he was equal to the task. Even though she had serious misgivings, Catharin supported her son in these endeavors, knowing full well that Gavin would stubbornly reject any appeal to reason and logic.

A more successful endeavor Gavin was involved in—along with nearly all Corellians—was the rebuilding and rehabilitation of their home world. The Imperial yoke had fallen heavily on the planet, turning the surface into a polluted, hyper-industrialized wasteland while crushing the spirit and resiliency of its populace. Every year, Gavin would volunteer for a restoration projects, laboring to restore and rehabilitate the natural wonders and treasures of Corellia.

With adulthood approaching, Gavin determined that he wanted to protect Corellia from the subjugation it had endured under the Empire from ever happening again. Electing to join the New Republic’s defense forces—an odd choice to some, with the Galactic Concordance in effect and the ongoing process of demilitarization—Gavin’s ambitions suffered a setback when his application to the Hosnian Prime flight academy was rejected due to the youth “failing to meet height and weight requirements”.

Undeterred, Gavin spent the next year in intensive study and building up his body. Resubmitting his application, the young man was accepted—barely— but the soon-to-be plebe was going to discover that life on Hosnian Prime could be very difficult.

Cadet life at the flight academy—or any academy, for that matter— involved a fair amount of hazing, and Gavin, tagged with the epithet “scrumrat” because of his small size and origin, became a favorite target for the upperclassbeings. The grueling curriculum took its toll as well; Gavin had little trouble with the academic aspects of the curricula, but scored poorly in those that measured physical strength. Staggering under a combat fieldpack that weighed nearly half as much as he did, Gavin was hard pressed to complete the forced road marches; hand to hand combat training saw him defeated nearly every time. Frantic to improve his physique, Gavin would spend long hours doing push-ups and sit-ups after “Lights Out” had been ordered in the barracks. The stress and physical punishment took their toll on the slender Corellian. Memories of childhood illnesses haunted Gavin as he was occasionally dragged into sickbay, but the stubborn young man refused to quit.

It was during his first year at Hosnian Prime that Gavin first experienced combat. A skirmish in the Nam Chorios system with Imperial Remnant forces quickly escalated into a bloody, if localized, conflict. Even though they had only minimal training in the simulators, and even less time in actual snubships, Gavin and the other cadets—along with a batch of retired pilots—were hastily formed into several ad-hoc Z-95 Headhunter squadrons. Deemed “combat-ready”, they were to constitute a reserve force for the front line starfighter groups. During a routine patrol in a supposedly quiet sector, Gavin and his fellow pilots found themselves in a dogfight with Remnant TIE fighters. For the first time in his life, Gavin fired at another being with the intention to kill; after landing his fighter, he discovered the inside of his flight suit was soaked with nervous sweat, and the maintenance crews had to pry Gavin’s hand from the controls of his ship.

After four years of intense training, and pushing his body and mind to its limits, Gavin graduated from Hosnian Prime flight academy with high honors. His academic standing permitted him to request duty with nearly any unit in the New Republic military. Unlike many other cadets who opted for fleet operations, or command staff positions, Gavin requested duty with Rogue Squadron, the elite of the New Republic’s Starfighter Command. A request was just that, however, with no guarantee that he would be accepted. Gavin’s flight trials were slightly rocky—the youth feared he incurred the wrath of Cal Stravin and Cyan Madine, in temporary command of the squadron—but ultimately successful, and Gavin became “Rogue 11”.

His time spent with Rogue Squadron was shorter than anticipated, as circumstances dictated the transfer of Gavin to another squadron in the Outer Rim territories. The Corellian found himself assigned to the Lightspeed Panthers, a starfighter wing that wrote a glorious chapter for itself during the Galactic Civl War. Now piloting one of the Panther’s T-70 X-wings with its distinctive fang-jawed nose art, Gavin maintained a vigilant watch on the galaxy’s edge, ensuring the safety of the people and home that he swore to protect . . .

Hey Gavin,

I wasn't sure if you were waiting for approval, but since I know next to nothing about the Disney version, and you're an admin, you're good to go.
