Cayenne Rudal was born to rich, doting, older parents on the planet of Leria Kerlsil in 12 BBY. When she was born, she already had a tuft of fiery red hair and screamed like the world was going to end, so her mother named her "Cayenne" after an exotic spice. Since they were both getting on in years, neither let any wish their only child had go unfulfilled. So she grew up happy, spirited, and quite spoiled. Her parents were surprised when the incident at Yavin occurred not long after Cay's twelfth birthday, but felt safe in their rather isolated neck of the galaxy.
The battle did not leave Cay unaffected, either. Images of the fray quickly leaked themselves around the galaxy, and she was able to catch a glimpse of the sleek X-wings and Y-wings about six months after the event occurred. Absolutely fascinated by their size and abilities, Cay's allegiance permanently aligned itself with the Rebel Alliance, due to which she demanded flight lessons and, of course, got them.
She trained well while she went to school, and at the age of eighteen graduated from their planet's academy with a basic knowledge of politics, galaxy history, astronavigation, and physics. However, she currently did not feel any drive to join up with the new government of the galaxy and chase the ragtag Empire all over the place, so she spent the next three years learning how to work her parents' business.
Then Thrawn appeared. His ruthlessness shocked even the selfish Cay, who then stubbornly demanded of her parents that she get a commission in the New Republic Navy and serve as an X-wing pilot. Even her doting parents were reluctant at first, but her cajoling eventually took its toll and they relented. Once in the Navy, however, she clashed with every superior officer she ran into. Having never taken orders in her life, the barking commands she was often given did not sit well with her. Her stubbornness and loyalty to the New Republic, along with her mediocre skills in the cockpit, were the only things that kept her from being kicked out of the Navy completely.
After bouncing around from squad to squad for years, Cay finally landed in the Womp Rat Squadron, still headstrong and stubborn and resentful of orders, but the harsh experiences of the last almost seven years had taught her how to hide them... usually. Whether she still has a junior grade lieutenant rank or not is up to the Captain, however...
